Why Our Quotes Are Fixed, and What That Costs You
Most app projects fail commercially before a line of code is written, because they are quoted hourly against a vague brief. The client hears a number, the scope drifts, and the invoice at month four is triple the estimate. Everyone blames everyone.
We quote fixed prices against a written scope document instead. That document lists every screen, every user role and every integration. If it is in the document, it is in the price. If you want something that is not in the document, we price that change separately and you decide — before we build it.
The honest trade-off: this makes the scoping phase slower. Expect two or three sessions and a week before you get a number. Agencies that quote in an hour are guessing, and you pay for the guess later.
What actually drives the price
- Number of user roles. One role is simple. Customer plus vendor plus admin is three interfaces, three permission sets and three times the testing.
- Payments. Taking money adds gateway integration, reconciliation, refunds, failure handling and compliance. It is rarely the small line item people expect.
- Offline behaviour. An app that must work without a connection needs local storage and conflict resolution. This is the single most underestimated requirement we see.
- Third-party systems. Integrating with a well-documented API is quick. Integrating with a legacy ERP with no documentation is not, and we will say so up front.
